Corcovado — Sirena or La Leona
All year · 5:00 / 5:30 am · $175 per person

Corcovado National Park

2.5% of the planet's biodiversity, one day, two ways in.

Corcovado is the reason most people come to the Osa — the largest primary rainforest on the Pacific coast of the Americas and home to a staggering 2.5% of the world's biodiversity. We arrange two classic ways into the park, both with guides who have worked it for years.

Sirena Ranger Station — by boat

Leave the Puerto Jiménez pier at 5 am for a scenic 90-minute boat ride to the Sirena Biological Station, deep inside the park. Then it's trails: monkeys swinging overhead, anteaters on the forest floor, toucans and scarlet macaws above you, coatis in the underbrush, poison-dart frogs, snakes — and with luck, a tapir, the largest land mammal in the Americas. Lunch at the station, boat back in the afternoon. Josh's knowledge brings the whole ecosystem to life. $175 per person.

La Leona Ranger Station — by car

Meet at 5:30 am at the bakery in town (buy your food for the day), then drive to La Leona on the park's southern edge with Luis, who has guided Corcovado for over ten years. You walk on the beach and inside the jungle, with a chance at 300+ bird species, 140 mammals and 100+ amphibians — macaws, tapirs, sea turtles, all four monkey species, and if the forest is generous, a big cat's tracks. $175 per person.

What to bring

Closed walking shoes, rain jacket, swimwear, sunscreen, insect repellent, 2 litres of water, your passport (park entry), binoculars if you have them, and a camera. Guide included. We arrange the park permit for you — they sell out in high season, so book early.
