Our philosophy

The native wildlife comes first.

Maze Lodge is a haven in the heart of the Osa Peninsula where the beauty of nature is celebrated and protected. Our philosophy is simple: the natural world is a precious gift to be cherished and safeguarded for the generations after us.

In practice

What that looks like day to day.

Conservation, hands-on. We work with local conservation organisations to protect the rainforest surrounding the lodge — and we run the place so lightly that the wildlife corridor through the property stays exactly that.

Built into the forest, not onto it. Four small lodges placed inside the existing primary rainforest, on a corridor animals use to move between the Tranquility reserve and Corcovado. We are not here to change the jungle — we're here to enjoy it, together with our guests.

Solar power and well water. The lodges run on our own solar system and our own well. We use eco-friendly cleaning products and source locally where we can.

Sharing it responsibly. Authentic experiences — hiking the forest, spotting wildlife, the beach — with local guides, so the people who depend on this ecosystem benefit from it too.

A ripple effect. We believe travel has the power to change lives, and that with the privilege of visiting comes a responsibility to protect. If our guests leave with a greater appreciation of the natural world and a commitment to protecting it, the lodge is doing its job.
